Pitch Prep
Pitch Packages are by invitation only.
See how & why —>
It is very hard to know when one’s own work is pitch-ready. And doing the work prematurely can lead to frustration, wasted time, and even disaster.
After reading through hundreds and hundreds of pages of mostly not-ready-to-pitch work in search of a story that is, I’ve also realized that this is time I’d much rather spend on helping people develop, write, and revise their stories.
However, I’m ecstatic to help a writer take the next steps to publishing when we discover their story is ready.
For this reason, I have decided to offer Pitch Packages by invitation only.
If you are interested in Pitch Prep, please see my Manuscript Evaluation Packages. Upon a full manuscript evaluation, you may receive an invitation for Pitch Prep. Please note your interest in Pitch Prep in the Client Intake form for the Manuscript Evaluation.
Coaching Packages may also result in an invitation.
What’s included
3 Rounds of Edits on Pitch Materials
When it comes down to it, your pitch is just as important as your manuscript itself. As unfair as it may seem, you only get 1 chance with an agent, and then that bridge is burned. Lack of a good pitch can easily leave you alienated from many or all of the agents who accept your genre, and even much of the publishing world (reputations travel fast.) And as compared to novel-writing, tackling pitch materials is a different beast entirely.
We will exchange 3 rounds of feedback on your query & synopsis via email and Microsoft Word comments/Track Changes tool.
Within that time, it is my goal to get your pitch materials as polished and ready-to-go as possible, to catch the attention of agents.
Note: 1 round of feedback is my comments on a draft, and your subsequent revision. To be clear, I will not be writing your pitch materials myself.
20+ Agent Spreadsheet
When it comes to pitching, research and strategy is incredibly important.
Without a good one, you could easily end up:
wasting loads of time
pitching agents who aren’t interested in your genre or topic
pitching agents who aren’t legitimate & will take advantage
pitching agents who aren’t a good fit for what you’re looking for in an agent (there are different types, focuses, & strengths)
getting stuck with someone who wants to change everything about your book
settling on an offer, perhaps without even having tried your top picks
rejecting the only offer you end up getting, in the hopes of better ones
getting multiple offers yet alienating them all
giving up too soon
You get the picture.
After assessing your work’s place in the market, and what you’re looking for in an agent, I will compile a 20+ agent spreadsheet with up-to-date researched agents tailored to you and your manuscript.
Coaching Call + Pitch Strategy
After compiling the agent list, we will conduct a 30-minute Coaching Call to discuss the agents and create a clear-cut strategy and timeline for who to pitch and when.
I will guide you through any questions you have, and help you evaluate what is most important to you in an agent and in the timeline for pitching.
After our call, I will provide you with a Pitch Strategy Summary detailing our decided-upon strategy and timeline in order to guide you as you embark on your pitching journey.
